A Major Setback
Aug. 1st, 2021 05:57 pmSo I haven't posted anything for a while. I don't know when, or if, that will change. My 10 year old computer may have died. I say may have since it's currently in the shop and has been for a while. It appears to be having some sort of hardware issue where it just black screens and won't respond. Sometimes it goes into a reboot loop, sometimes it will come up for a minute or two before it black screens and sometimes it will stay running for hours. Nothing wrong with memory or disk drives and no error messages in the logs.
Now being a careful user, my backups ran automatically every Sunday night so data loss should be minimal. But... and this is a big but.. it was a Win7 box and as we all should know by now, Win7 isn't supported. Not to mention that retailers stopped including OS install disks with their sales so I can't reinstall Win7 on another box. With that in mind, I went ahead and bought a Win10 replacement, but I'm undecided whether to try to install a 17 year-old TS2 game on it or not. I know some people have gotten Sims2 to work rather easily on Win10 while others have all sort of problems. So it's a crap shoot whether it will work on not.
For now, I'm hoping the shop can revive my Win7 box at which time it will likely simply become my Sims2-only machine. But if they can't.... I may be done. Or I may not. Only time will tell.

Sorry to hear that
Date: 2021-08-03 10:34 pm (UTC)I now play on the worst OS ever designed, windows vista, lol. My ex live in bought me this under powered radish of a computer in '08 and it was obsolete while still in the box. Video chip instead of a card , 286 gigs of memory and about 1.7 gigs of RAM. When she moved out one of the first things I did was get a nice Win 7 setup , the aforementioned one that took a dump. I go through life like a chicken with my head cut off, so ya, no backups of anything. Having/trying to re-trackdown all/most of the cc I had was a pain. Fortunately most of the posting I do at MTS or other sites is trying to help people with wcif's , so by checking my posts I found a ton of links and even uploads I'd made to mediafire/SFS/Mega and I could retrieve some things that way.
It doesn't sound like you will lose your cc from your description, but if I can ever be of any help ( by uploading everything I have for various shapes , or anything), please don't hesitate to ask it would be my pleasure to do so. Wishing you the best of luck with your comp and I'm grateful for your great creations and help over many years. Thank you Eric , you rock!

Date: 2021-08-04 11:27 pm (UTC)At present, my TS2 plans are undetermined depending on whether my old computer will be functional again or not. I was on a break from playing/creating anyway - my TS2 involvement runs in streaks - so if my old computer is toast, then I'll wait for that urge to play again to strike me before I attempt installation on the new Win10 box.
